Incidence of obesity is rising fast in India, which ranks 4th in terms of obese population. Medical Community has already realized the ill effects of obesity. To spread its awareness DEW Medicare and Trinity Hospital organized Obesity awareness Camp recently. This awareness camp was organized with the aim of not only to make people aware about obesity but to make them aware about its evaluation and management.
Shri. Mohan Gandhe, an acclaimed educationist and founder of Gandhe’s Education Society, Nagpur, was the chief guest for the inaugural function of the camp. On this occasion, Dr. Anagha Sahsrabuddhe, Convenor, Life Style Modification Centre, Nagpur, spoke on Life style modification for obesity. Dr. Shailesh Pitale, an eminent Endocrinologist spoke on Medical evaluation and management of obesity. Dr. Sudhir Tomey, a well known Gastro Intestinal and Bariatric Surgeon, spoke on obesity and weight loss surgery. Dr. Sanjiv Bais, Anesthetist and Critical Care Specialist gave an account of anesthetic management of patients during surgery. Shri. Mohan Gandhe, Chief Guest, shared his thoughts and urged the society to take measures to control obesity and related multiple preventable life style diseases eg. Hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, hyperacidity and certain cancers. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Sudhakar Dhondge, CEO of the Hospital.
Workshop on Diet management and Exercise were also organized on the occasion. Dr. Shalaka Kathikar, Consultant Physiotherapist, conducted the exercise workshop. Dietician Rashmi Buddhadeo explained about the diet plans for reducing the weight of the patients and subsequent salad decoration competition was also organized. Mrs. Smriti Dayani bagged the first prize, while 2nd and 3rd prizes were won by Mrs. Alka Deshmukh and Mrs. Sheetal Katurwar respectively. Liver diseases are very common in India. To diagnose the same liver biopsy is usually suggested, which is an invasive procedure and carries risk of complications, but a novel technique of Fibroscan is now used to know the liver status, DEW Medicare and Trinity Hospital on this day organized a liver checkup for delegates by fibroscan. All the patients underwent free checkup via fibroscan to know the status of liver fibrosis. All the employees of the hospital worked very hard for the success of the camp.
